Birch (Paper or Yellow Birch)
The wood of paper and yellow birch are mostly identical in appearance. Both are of medium density, creamy white/yellow sapwood to reddy brown heart, although the yellow birch has a higher quantity of heart wood. Often, today, the pure heart stock is used as a cherry substitute because, unlike cherry it's colour will not alter significantly with exposure to sunlight, .... and its cheaper.
Wood is typically easy to sand, machine and finish.

Spalted Birch
Degree of spalting varies with each piece, but dramatic black vein patterns for small boxes. The wood is fragile, so please order other wood, or multiple pieces with it, to suport this, in transit.
