East Indian Rosewood & African Blackwood
... wood priced in Canadian Dollars ...................

African Blackwood:
(Dalbergia melanoxylon)
Unlike ebony this is a true rosewood, with the grain structure and tonal qualities to make it the wood of choice for bagpipe makers
Heartwood is dark purplish-black or brown with black streaks. Narrow sapwood is white and very clearly defined. Grain is mostly straight with a fine texture. Slightly oily. No distinct odor or taste. Dull sheen finish.
Machines very well, almost like metal, and sands easily to a glass like finish.

East Indian Rosewood:
(Dalbergia latifolia)
A truly beautiful wood, rich in orange and black colours displayed in verigated bands. Quite an exotic turning wood
It is very stable. The resin makes it a little hard to glue, and it is necessary to predrill before nailing. No imports of lumber are allowed from Indian, only exported as turning squares or components for musical instruments.
